LEXINGTON, KY - Legends starting pitchers Justin Miller and Javier Reynoso both turn in their best starts of the year in today's series opening double header against the second place High Point Rockers.
In Game One it was all about Justin Miller, going 6 innings allowing just one run on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6 Rockers. Carlos Martinez took the bump in the 7th giving up 2 hits and striking out one before picking up the save.
The Legends only had 3 hits in game 1, 2 coming from 2nd baseman Matt Botcher, and Kole Cottam added the game winning 2-run homerun in the 3rd inning.
For High Point in Game 1 it was still an excellent performance from Ryan Weiss, going 5 innings giving up just the 2 runs in the 3rd on 3 hits before handing the ball to Zachary Muckenhirn. The former major leaguer struck out all 3 batters he faced in the 6th inning.
In Game 2, Javier Reynoso put on a show tossing 5 innings of no-hit ball, giving up 1 run after 2 walks and a fielding error allowed a runner to score in the 5th inning. Joe Joe Rodriguez relieved Reynoso in the 6th, striking out 2 of the first 3 batters he faced to take the no hitter into the final frame. Rodriguez struck out the first batter of the 7th inning allowing the Rockers 8-hole hitter Gavin Johns to double, ending the no-hit bid. Rodriguez would then walk D.J. Burt before being relieved by flamethrowing Neraldo Catalina. Catalina struck out 2 and walked 2 allowing 1 run to cross in the 7th.
The pitching performance was given a massive boost in Game 2 by an offensive explosion by the Legends to the tune of 8 runs on 9 hits. Eight Legends batters reached base, highlighted by a 2 hit, 2 RBI game for 3rd baseman Osmy Gregorio.
After today's wins, the Legends improve to 10-23, 5-5 in their last 10 games. The Rockers fall to 19-14, now 3 games back on Gastonia for first place in the South Division.
Game 3 of this series is set for tomorrow, Saturday, June 1st at 7:00 P.M. Fans can purchase tickets online at LexingtonLegends.com or in person at the box office at Legends Field on Legends Lane.
